Nina & JG were such fun and so completely adorable to shoot! Thanks, guys!

The staff at The Bridge were all really helpful and on the ball, even covering up their plants in the nights leading up to the wedding, so that Vivian could have the roses she hoped for. And I can’t say enough good things about the owner-DJ, who sang, played the saxophone, guitar, drums and some other instruments I couldn’t identify, all with a smile that never left his face. Such a joy to watch someone enjoying their job like that!

I swear I’m not exaggerating here when I say that I have never seen a couple more excited to be getting married in my life! I thought I had a smile you could fit a coathanger in on my wedding day, but Leandre had me beaten! She was literally bouncing for joy as she walked down the aisle, and for the rest of the day too, and Erich wasn’t far behind! You guys make such an adorable couple; thank you for letting me share in your wedding day! I cried, I laughed, and it felt like such a privilege to be there. Congratulations!

Is it just me, or do wedding dresses sometimes look even more beautiful from underneath?

I’m going to entitle this next set of black & whites something like, “I could not be more excited to be marrying you”…or something.

Natasha and Deon organised four gorgeous couples to come and pose for us, and we took turns at making them smile, kiss, lean, sit, climb, and all the usual things we make couples do for the sake of a good photo! Later in the day they all changed into vintage outfits (giant swoon on my part) and the fantabulous Mario Sales showed us how he poses large groups. I then stuck to Mario like glue as he took one of the couples for another couple shoot in the sunset. And just because I like to be different, I’m starting there at the end and working my way backwards. More posts to follow!

I loved the country-chic lemon-themed decor!

At my very first meeting with Mia last year, she told me how much she loved this type of shot, and especially requested that I do one for her! Here you go, Mia – beautiful!

I met Taryne in December when she catered Mel & Graeme’s wedding (go and look at her site here; her dessert buffet was AMAZING), so I knew that her attention to detail would be impeccable – and I was right! Bird cutouts hung from the trees and fluttered in the breeze during the ceremony. They adorned the glasses at the bar, sat atop the bowls of chocolate eggs, and even found their way into Taryne’s gorgeous bouquet. Taryne made jars and jars of jam and homemade lavender-infused biscotti as favours, and yes, they were delicious! Werner and Taryne, it was an absolute pleasure photographing your beautiful wedding, and I wish you all the happiness in the world!

I’ve had so many shoots over the past two weeks! I promise I’ll try and blog everyone’s sessions as soon as possible – Kirsty & Ant, Mia & Francois, and Ulisha & Andre – that’s you!

I love this little yellow guy. I think he looks so sad that they’re kissing right in front of him, and he’s all alone…at least, that’s how my brain works

Rupert and Kate were married on the 20th of February, and we did this shoot on the 20th of March, so when I saw the numbered parking bays I made them lie down in number 20. Nothing like a bit of special meaning in a parking lot

The rain also showed up for a bit, and then cleared up beautifully. Very obliging.

This just felt like it was crying out for vintagey, rounded edges More to come from this fabulous shoot!

I barely ever get a great sunset…well, this one was gorgeous and I didn’t let it go to waste!

Just a sneak peek of goodness to come. It was threatening rain the entire day, and in fact it did come down while the make-up was being done, but then it kindly let up for us to do our thing. This isn’t the first time that’s happened to me at Shepstone. There must be a kind of magic there.

This one you’ve seen, but I love it so much I just had to post it again!

I took lots of the photos, and I particularly love the shoot we did at Toadbury Hall with the gorgeous dresses from Honey Boutique – see pages 20 to 31!

Early on the Saturday morning we drove out to Stellenbosch to photograph Nicola and Wynand’s sweet, country-chic engagement shoot. The weather was perfect, as was the location!

Then we tried to get into the old Gasworks in Brixton. There we got stopped by a strange old man who gave us a huge lecture on how it was forbidden to go in there, but he was still going to let us, but if we fell through to the centre of the earth or stood on toxic waste that ate through our shoes it would be our faults. Um. We just stood outside in the end. We didn’t even find any of the blackjacks he warned us about; in fact, he seemed more concerned about the blackjacks than the toxic waste and alleged holes to the centre of the earth!

Then we saw this funky old Morris Minor (so my friend Debi informed me), so we did some more lying on the ground action shots:

I know this one seems odd, but I really like the way I’ve placed it!

These guys walked past and asked for a picture with the bride. I told them to do “gangsta”.

I’ve loved the concept of Trash the Dress for a couple of years now, but this will be my first time doing it! And before you all get freaked out, we’re not actually going to TRASH her dress. We might just dirty it up a little. But no setting on fire or paintball sessions for us! It’s more about getting to wear your dress in a less “weddingy” environment and having fun with it, instead of worrying about getting it messed up. At least, that’s how Trash The Dress works in my mind.

I’d love to do this next one, but Johannesburg isn’t really conducive to this type of shot. Plus we’re not going to be out after dark. And much as I’d like to be able to guarantee rain, I’m not that good.

Now find me an awesome old derelict building, and I’m THERE. There’s something so beautiful about the contrast of the soft white dress, which symbolises new beginnings, against the dirty, run-down ruin, whose life and purpose is over.
