And because a post is not a post without a picture, here’s one I took lying underneath a tree at the botanical gardens a couple of weeks ago. I’m not the biggest fan of winter, but I love the intricate network of bare branches against the blue sky!
I would love winter if it didn’t mean having to drive in snow/on ice. Yuck. Maybe if we went back to horse’n'buggy days, but then there wouldn’t be lovely, constant heat on my feet while traveling.
Trees in the winter are beautiful, though, and you’ve captured the feel of winter with this shot – the sky even *looks* cold to me.
PS – What do the temps get like in Johannesburg during the winter? Kansas can be absolutely frigid.
Our winters are actually really great compared to many places! We don’t get snow or ice (it snows maybe once every ten years
) The temperature goes below freezing mostly only at night. The reason I hate it is because our houses aren’t sealed with double glazing and what-have-you, and we don’t have built-in radiators and so on. So in winter our houses are FREEZING. I guess mostly it isn’t worth it to have all that stuff just for a few months. Rich people do have underfloor heating and such, sometimes. 
The best part is in Johannesburg it doesn’t rain in winter, so the sky is nearly always blue and bright. It’s a very COLD blue, though – glad it came across in my photo!
