Charlene and Koos: Engagement

Koos and Charlene were an absolute blast to photograph! We did the shoot at Charlene’s Aunt’s house in Pretoria, and I’ve got to say I have never seen a more beautiful garden in my life! From ponds to waterfalls to lush ferns and green lawns, I was in my element. Because Koos & Charlene are having a peacock-themed wedding, we were hoping that one of the peacocks who live in the estate would come strolling by, but we were out of luck. The closest I got was one sitting on a wall! Still, I think we got some gorgeous shots, because Charlene and Koos pretty much never stopped laughing, which is my favourite thing in the world!

Engagement: Nikki and Shane

It’s been a quiet slightly less busy than normal winter, and although I’ve been rolling out the engagement & couple sessions like a factory, it’s time for the weddings to begin again! Tomorrow is my first for the season. So with that in mind, here’s just one quick one from Nikki and Shane’s engagement session this afternoon:

Vanessa and Neil are getting married in Potchefstroom and they already organised a photographer (phooey, because they’re getting married at the gorgeous Anderland, and I’ve been dying to shoot there!). They decided to do an engagement shoot with me to get some fun photos for their invitations, and once we were done I wanted to shoot their wedding even more, because we had so much fun!

Barbara & Jason: Engagement at the Zoo

Barbara and Jason are getting married in September at the ever-fabulous Shepstone Gardens, and we did their engagement shoot at the Johannesburg Zoo last month. On the day the world cup opened, because none of us were paying attention. Luckily we finished before they closed the zoo at midday!

Vivian and Gary’s Engagement Shoot

This beautiful pair are getting married on Saturday – my last wedding for the season! Vivian had her make-up trial done right before this shoot, which I highly recommend to all my future brides. It’s great to have your make-up prioessionally done for a shoot, plus there’s the added bonus of making sure it looks great before the big day.

Gary and Vivian, thanks for climbing into trees for me! See you guys on Saturday!

Daleen & Aaron’s Engagement

Mia & Francois’ Engagement Session at home

Mia & Francois were married last Saturday, and I shot their engagement session two weeks before. Mia was just moving into Francois’ house, and she wanted a fun session of them planting flowers in the garden, baking and just having fun in their new home! It was so much fun, and the muffins were delicious!

Kirsty & Ant: E-shoot at the Johannesburg Country Club

Kirsty and Ant are getting married in August at the Johannesburg Country Club, and they wanted to do their engagement session there before winter, so we met there early last Saturday morning. The grass was covered in dew, so we all got soaked pretty quickly, but Ant and Kirsty were troopers and carried on regardless. Thanks guys, and see you in a few months!

Laura & Gustav’s Engagement Shoot

Laura is Australian, Gustav is South African, and they met in the UK. After conducting a long-distance relationship, they’re finally getting married in Australia later this year. That, unfortunately, means that I don’t get to photograph it, but I know it’s going to be fabulous. And at least I got to photograph their just-as-fabulous engagement session! Laura found me on Rock ‘n Roll Bride, and contacted me a few months ago about doing their e-shoot. They decided on a fun session on the street where they live, and also wanted to incorporate the travel aspect of their relationship, so they brought along some globes, a world map, vintage suitcases, and more lovenotes and cards than I have ever seen in my life. I love props! And I love these two.

The rain also showed up for a bit, and then cleared up beautifully. Very obliging.

Craig & Jade’s Engagement Shoot

When I told Jade and Craig to be ready at 7:30am it sounded like a good idea. Nice and early, to miss the heat of the day…little did we know we’d picked one of the hottest days of the year! We sweated, fought off flies and I came out looking like a boiled lobster, but somehow Jade and Craig managed to look effortlessly cool in their photos anyway. I love what we got – I can’t wait for your wedding next month, guys!

Christine Meintjes Workshop Part II

I know you’ve all been waiting with bated breath to see more of the fantastically gorgeous engagement session we shot at Christine Meintjes’ workshop. And if you haven’t, pretend you were. This shoot was so adorable I could eat it up with a big bowl of custard. And I suppose Nicola and Wynand were a bit of help too

And another of him jumping alone. This was the only image I could bring myself to make monochrome, by the way, because the colours in this location are too gosh darn pretty not to use.

Christine Meintjes workshop Part I

The weekend in Cape Town was fabulous. I learned so much about not only photography, but about running a wedding photography business as well. I have to give a huge thank you to to Christine Meintjes for organising, teaching, sharing and just generally being awesome, and to the other seven photographers I met for sharing your knowledge and experiences as well.

Early on the Saturday morning we drove out to Stellenbosch to photograph Nicola and Wynand’s sweet, country-chic engagement shoot. The weather was perfect, as was the location!
